Scent work is a fantastic way to give blind or visually impaired dogs the mental stimulation, confidence and physical workout they need. Sniffing releases endorphins which reduces stress levels, providing them with an overall wellbeing boost. Plus, it’s fun for us humans too! It’s easy to do, requires very little physical effort from you as the owner, can be done in all weathers and is a very cost effective way to keep your dog entertained. I’m thrilled to announce the launch of my new four-week “Beginners Scent Work for Blind Dogs” course, which will be held entirely online.
As a dog lover and trainer, I’ve always been fascinated by the power of a dog’s sense of smell. For blind dogs, their sense of smell is even more crucial as it helps them navigate the world around them. That’s why I’m passionate about teaching owners how to harness the power of their dog’s sense of smell through scent work.
My four-week course is designed specifically for those who are new to scent work and have blind or visually impaired dogs. We’ll cover the basics of scent work, including how to introduce your dog to a new scent, how to teach them to search and indicate for a specific scent and how to build on their skills over time. Each week, we’ll focus on a different aspect of scent work, so you and your blind dog can gradually build your skills together.
One of the great things about our course is that it’s entirely online, so you can participate from the comfort of your own home. All you need is a computer, tablet or phone and a reliable internet connection. We’ll be holding the course on Zoom.
I will be hosting the course myself, so you’ll have the benefit of learning directly from me. I have won awards for my work with blind dogs and have a particular passion for scent work.
Throughout the course, I’ll be providing you with plenty of support and guidance to ensure that you and your dog get the most out of the experience. We’ll also have a dedicated WhatsApp group where you can connect with other participants and share your progress, if you want to. Plus, get bespoke feedback from me with your weekly tasks!
